Chandigarh to become Osama’s Abottabad

Posted: 01 Mar 2012 04:47 AM PST

Osama Bin LadenChandigarh will become Osama Bin Laden’s Abottabad in the upcoming movie Zero Dark Thirty directed by Hollywood director Kathryn Bigelow

To give the feel of a Pakistani town, the shops have signboards written in Urdu, the language commonly used in Pakistan, while three-wheeler auto-rickshaws and other vehicles too have got a brightly coloured layer of paint and Pakistani registration numbers.

A local hardware shop, Ramgarhia Hardware store has been renamed ‘Shahzad Hardware and Paint Store’ in Urdu. An internet café and a phone call centre have also been given Pakistani names for the shots.
"While the supporting actors in the backdrop are mostly hired locally or from Delhi, their clothes and appearance has been made to match with life in Pakistan," a member who accompanied the unit from Delhi, told IANS here.
“Given the security environment in Pakistan and the strained US-Pakistan relations, too many risks were involved in shooting the film inside that country.”

Incidentally, the shooting for the film began here just days after the Abbottabad ‘safe house’ was demolished by the authorities in Pakistan earlier this week.
Police sources here said the Hollywood film unit, which is taking the help of production companies in Chandigarh and Delhi, is expected to shoot in the area for a week.
The film is expected to be released at the end of this year.

Former Skipper Azharuddin faces non Bailable Warrant

Posted: 01 Mar 2012 03:56 AM PST

AzharuddinFormer Indian Skipper Md. Azharuddin has been charged with Non Bailable warrant after he didnot appear before court in a Money Laundering Case.

Metropolitan Magistrate Vikrant Vaid issued the warrant against Azharuddin even as his counsel moved an exemption application Thursday on the ground that he was busy campaigning for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

“The exemption application is dismissed,” the court said while directing Azharuddin to appear in person March 7.
Earlier, the Delhi court had issued a non-bailable warrant against him for not appearing in court on the day of the final verdict in the case, a lawyer said.
According to complainant Sanjay Solanki, he helped Azharuddin purchase property in Bandra in Mumbai for Rs.1.5 crore. As per the agreement to sell and purchase, Azhar agreed to pay double the initial amount of Rs.1.5 crore if the deal fell through due to his failure to comply with the terms.

When the deal did not mature, Azhar refused to pay double the amount, the complainant’s counsel Gurvinder Singh Talwar said. Azhar issued two cheques of amount Rs.1.5 crore twice to the complainant, which were dishonoured, he said.
Azhar during the framing of charges claimed innocence and told the court that he did not know the complainant personally and met him for the first time in court.

Windows 8 launched by Microsoft

Posted: 01 Mar 2012 03:41 AM PST

windows8 design Micorsoft has released the beta version of Windows 8 for public testing and feedback. Users can download it and use for a limited period of time free of cost.

Windows 8, as the first Microsoft operating system compatible with low-power microprocessors designed by ARM Holdings Plc (ARM.L), will run on tablets as well as desktops and laptops, in an effort to counter the runaway success of Apple Inc’s (AAPL.O) iPad.

“It’s an even better Windows than Windows 7,” said Steven Sinofsky, head of Microsoft’s flagship Windows unit, as he demonstrated the new system at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Windows 7, Microsoft’s last operating system, was its fastest-selling ever, racking up 525 million sales in less than three years. But Microsoft has found itself sidelined in the rush toward mobile computing by Apple, Google Inc (GOOG.O) and Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O).

“It’s incredibly fast and fluid to just navigate this UI (user interface)”, said Sinofsky, showing off Windows 8 on a tablet and an ultra-thin laptop at the event in Barcelona.

Anyone can download the new version of Windows, but it will only work on PCs and laptops running standard Intel Corp (INTC.O) x86 chips. Consumers will have to wait longer to try out the full experience on ARM-compatible tablets.

It is available for download at preview.windows.com. Sinofsky said people from 70 countries had already downloaded the software on Wednesday morning, but he did not give exact numbers.

Microsoft says it is aiming to get machines running on both the ARM and Intel platforms into the market at the same time, but has not set a target date. The world’s largest software company generally tries to bring out a new version of Windows every three years, so that would indicate a full release date around October this year, in time for the holiday shopping season.

In both versions, Windows 8 features a completely new interface, borrowed from what Microsoft calls the “Metro” style of the current Windows Phone software. It features blocks or “tiles” that can be moved around the screen or tapped to go straight into an application.

The latest version of Windows 8 unveiled on Wednesday has better performance, quality and reliability than the version it released to developers last autumn.

For the first time, this version of Windows 8 includes the Windows Store, where users can download and try out apps and get access to cloud storage with the ability to move content across a range of devices including Windows phones. It also uses a test version of Microsoft’s newest browser, Internet Explorer 10.

The Windows Store has a range of apps including a reader for Gannett Co Inc’s (GCI.N) national newspaper USA Today, games such as Cut the Rope, and other titles compatible with Microsoft’s Xbox video game system. But it is still tiny in comparison with the 140,000 apps available for the iPad. Users need to sign on with a Microsoft account to download apps, which are all free during the test period.

The test version of Windows 8 has mail, calendar and messaging apps, but no evidence of Office, Microsoft’s dominant suite of work applications. Sinofsky said earlier this month that a version of Office would be included in Windows 8 for ARM tablets.

Bihar Govt not happy with Central University moving to Gaya

Posted: 01 Mar 2012 01:27 AM PST

Bihar Government is not is not happy with the Central University of Bihar moving to Gaya. CM Nitish Kumar has expressed his anger and resentment in a letter written to Union HRD Minister, Kapil Sibal.
He re-insisted that Motihari was chosen bin order to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi.

“The Centre’s decision to open CUB at Gaya is an assault on the feelings of the people of Bihar. If you want state government’s cooperation, the CUB should be established at Motihari, from where Mahatma Gandhi started his ‘Satyagraha’. The state government will provide land for the purpose at Motihari free of cost,” Nitish wrote to Sibal in his three-page letter to him.

He reminded Sibal that the Centre had agreed in principle for opening CUB at Motihari but now, he said, it appears that due to some prejudice the Centre is thinking to open it at either Patna, Bihta or Gaya. A committee comprising the representatives of Centre and Bihar was constituted to select the site for the university. “It appears from your letter that the committee has inspected a site at Gaya and sent its report, but I have to say that the representatives of Bihar had no say in this affair. This is the Centre’s unilateral decision,” the CM said.

Nitish pointed out that the state’s biggest university, Magadh University, is based in Gaya; hence there is no logic to establish CUB there. After the Centre’s nod, he said, three alternative sites were selected in Motihari. “Today the establishment of CUB at Motihari has become a dream for the people of Bihar. The state government is committed to fulfil this dream and the required land will be made available free of cost,” he asserted.

A ‘tussle’ over the site of the CUB has been going on between the Union HRD ministry and state government for about three years. The state government has been insisting on Motihari saying the establishment of CUB would be a tribute to Mahatma, but the Centre remains reluctant pointing out lack of infrastructure and other facilities needed for the CUB and its faculty. On the contrary, the CM made it a point that CUB would be set up at Motihari and nowhere else.

Nitish further pointed out to Sibal that some central universities have been established in the interiors of Kerala, Odisha, Punjab. Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. “Some of these places are less developed and have little infrastructure and connectivity than Motihari,” he said
