Every year, the navy receives around 2.8 lakh applications from boys aged between 17 and 21 with science at the higher secondary level, from across the country for non-officer positions out of which around 1.4 lakh are found ineligible. Of the rest, around 40,000 clear the exam. From these, the navy selects 4,000 on merit.
