Bihar village will build a temple for Sachin, Dhoni and Yuvraj Posted: 03 Jul 2011 07:32 PM PDT Cricket is a religion in India and affirming this is the fact that a temple dedicated to Indian top three cricket players — Sachin Tendulkar , Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh, is being constructed in a village in Bihar. This cricket temple – a first of its kind, will provide an opportunity for fans of cricket’s Gods, Sachin, Dhoni and Yuvraj to offer prayers and worship them if they like it. The construction of the temple is a brainchild of Bhojpuri actor-cum-singer Manoj Tiwari, who is an avid cricket fan. “I have decided to construct a temple dedicated to cricket players like Sachin, Dhoni and Yuvraj, Tiwari told rediff.com. Tiwari also added that the cricket temple will be constructed in his ancestral village, Atarwaliya, in Kaimur district. “After the Indian cricket team won the World Cup earlier this year, I made up my mind to build a temple dedicated to cricket players,” Tiwari said. He informed that the temple will be designed by a Mumbai-based renowned architect. “White marble life-sized statues of Sachin, Dhoni and Yuvraj in cricket uniform, with bats in hands, will be installed as deities of the cricket temple,” he said. He said that special sculptors from Jaipur [ Images ] were hired to make the idols. According to him, four acres of land was acquired for the cricket temple in his village. “A huge bat and ball would be constructed atop the temple to make the structure visible from distance,” Tiwari said.

Flood Scenario worsening in Bihar, over 100 villages flooded Posted: 03 Jul 2011 05:33 PM PDT Patna: Hundreds of people in Bihar have been forced to abandon their homes as flood waters entered nearly 100 villages and rising levels of most rivers threatened to inundate many others, officials said on Saturday. All the inundated villages were in flood-prone districts of Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Purnia, Araria, Saharsa, Madhepura and Bagaha, officials said. “Water entered these villages after levels rose in all the major rivers following heavy rains in the state and the catchment areas of Nepal,” a water resource department official said. According to the Central Water Commission, the water level in major rivers – Kosi, Mahananda, Gandak, Budhi Gandak, and Bagmati – has increased since Friday. Kosi and Bagmati are flowing above danger mark at some places. “All the rivers are in full spate following heavy rains. Some rivers may cross the red mark late Saturday or Sunday,” an official said. Officials said that after two consecutive years of drought, the fear of floods is back in Bihar with incessant rains and heavy water discharge into the Kosi river from Nepal. However, Bihar Water Resources Development Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary said all embankments were safe and there was no need to panic. “The government is fully ready to face any eventuality if water level in rivers create threat,” he told IANS. Choudhary said the government has taken full preparatory measures to protect embankments, but conceded that several villages in flood-prone districts face threats due to the increased water levels. Reports suggested that the authorities have asked hundreds of people to shift to safer places following the rising water level of the Kosi. The state government has asked engineers and district officials to keep a 24-hour vigil. Choudhary said the eastern Kosi embankment, which had breached in 2008, flooding five districts of northern Bihar, was totally safe. “We are taking care of it. There is no need to panic.” In 2008, over three million people were rendered homeless in Bihar when the Kosi river breached its bank upstream in Nepal and changed course. It was said to be the worst flood in the state in the last 50 years. According to the water resources department, a lot of water has been discharged into the Kosi in the last few days after heavy rains in Nepal since Monday.

Bihar promoting industrialization with Social Justice Posted: 03 Jul 2011 02:31 PM PDT PATNA: NDA II government in Bihar seeks to achieve what NDA I could not between 2005-10. Through its new industrial policy, which came into force on July 1, the government hopes to accelerate industrial development. The state has been able to attract an investment of barely Rs 2000 crore even though the State Industrial Promotion Board cleared investment proposals worth over Rs 1.7 lakh crore in the past five years. According to an industries department official, the state’s new industrial policy incorporates the best features of the industrial policies of various states. But, more than the incentives and concessions allowed, what sets it apart is the bid to promote quota for the backward and weaker sections of society in the private sector, without making it mandatory. It has been left to the discretion of industrial units themselves. Under the new policy, the industries following the government’s quota policy – altogether 50%.jobs are reserved for backward castes, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes – will get an additional concession of 10%. Said the official, “This concession will be over and above that payable to industries in general.” Besides, Bihar government has also provided for incentives to encourage entrepreneurs belonging to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and women. Those setting up micro and small scale industries will be entitled to 100% replenishment of VAT by the state government. According to the official, “this replenishment will be done for 10 years from the setting up of the units.” Clearly, NDA II is vigorously pursuing its agenda of ‘social justice’ in Bihar.

Bodh gaya to host 32nd Kalchakra Posted: 02 Jul 2011 09:28 PM PDT DHARAMSHALA: The organizing committee of 32nd Kalchakra initiation to be held in Bodhgaya in Bihar, on Friday launched a website giving information about the December 31-January 10, 2012 event to devotees. Kalachakra initiation is considered to be one of the biggest religious ceremonies in the Buddhist community worldwide and is sparingly conducted over the years since the practice was first started. Kalon Tripa (Tibetan prime minister) Prof Samdong Rinponche launched the website on Friday morning at Kahsag secretariat. “None of the previous Dalai Lamas have given Kalachakra initiations as much as the 14th Dalai Lama, who has already initiated 30 Kalachakra teachings so far. The 31st teaching is to be held from July 6 this year in Washington DC.” He said. As part of his spiritual accomplishments, the Dalai Lama will confer the 32nd Kalachakra initiation at Bodhgaya as requested by late Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Dorjee Khandu and other generous sponsors, he said. According to Tibetan scriptures, the Kalchakra means the time wheel, which is beginningless and endless. Much in the Tibetan tradition revolves around time and cycles (cycles of planets and cycles of births). The practice is supposed to help control subtle energies within one’s body, helping him progress on the path to enlightenment. The organizers expect huge turnout for the event from across the world, including Tibet, Mongolia, China, Nepal, Bhutan and other Himalayan regions. “We expect about 2 lakh devotees, pilgrims, enthusiasts and visitors for the 32nd Kalchakra,” Nawang Norbu, chairman of the organizing committee told reporters on Friday. A “World peace prayer” and a “Lifelong prayer offering to Dalai Lama” will also be conducted during the event, which is likely to attract many well-known personalities. The has 22 principal donors — individuals as well as organizations — from across the world. The family of late Dorjee Khandu, who died in a helicopter crash on April 30 this year, will bear the additional expenses, over and above the donations received for the event, Norbu said.

NRI Scholar clueless about her abduction news Posted: 02 Jul 2011 09:26 PM PDT A day after news about the abduction of an American university researcher, Juhi Tyagi, by Naxalites in the extremist-affected Jamui district of Bihar flashed in the media, it turned out to be a false alarm. "There is nothing of that sort. I don't know how the news spread. She has been "Juhi was surprised to know that there was news about her abduction. She often spends a month or more in interior areas to elicit different views of people. She travels a lot. She is absolutely fine and doing her job," he added. Juhi was not available for comments, as her mobile was switched off. "She does not want to talk from where she is right now. Her mobile remains switched off. She calls when she wants. But she wants all this to stop. She is at present in the interiors and visiting villages," said Juhi's uncle Shashi Shukla, who is in Patna. Jamui Superintendent of Police Ram Narain Singh had on Wednesday said that Tyagi had gone missing for the last two days along with a local, Pradeep Das. There was, however, no complaint from anyone regarding abduction. The SP said that Juhi had visited the area earlier also. "She has gone on her own for studies in the interiors. She is using her mobile as per convenience. The police also got to know about her through media and later we tried to verify it from the village she visited last. There was no prior information regarding her to the police," the SP added. Jushi, working on the problems of extremism, used to visit the area quite often. During her visits, she used to stay at Das' house at Mohlitand village and visited even remote areas for research work. She had gone missing from Nawada area under Kowakol police station of Jamui district. On Tuesday afternoon, she had gone out with one Pradeep Das on his motorcycle.
