Posted: 18 Mar 2011 11:40 PM PDT

In addition to the 10 on-going mega food park projects approved in the 1st phase, the government has given nod for the establishment of 5 new mega food parks in the second phase under the Scheme for Infrastructure Development. This was informed by minister of state for food processing industries Harish Rawat in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

For these parks, Expression of Interest (EoI) have been invited from 10 states, viz., Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Bihar, Orissa, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Chhattisgarh and Tripura.

These proposals were under appraisal by a multi-skilled professional agency which had been appointed as Programme Management Agency (PMA).

As per the laid down procedure, the merit of these proposals were required to be evaluated by a Technical Committee (TC). On the recommendation of the TC, inter-ministerial approval committee would select the most suitable proposal for granting "In-principle" approval.

The mega food park project aimed at enhancing farmers' income significantly. Each park was expected to benefit around 6000 farmers/producers directly and about 25000-30000 farmers indirectly.

Royal Sundaram renews MoU with Bihar

Posted: 18 Mar 2011 10:28 PM PDT

Royal Sundaram Alliance Insurance Company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Bihar to provide health insurance  under the government-sponsored Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna (RSBY) to the below-poverty-line (BPL) families in Sheohar, Vaishali and Kishengunj. The scheme is expected to benefit over nine lakh BPL families in these three districts.

Royal Sundaram aims to support the government in addressing the inequities in rural health at the micro level and bridge the prevailing gaps in healthcare. Presently, the insurance company is servicing the RSBY scheme in eight districts of Bihar, including West Champaran, East Champaran, Sheohar, Vaishali, Araria, Katihaar, Kishengunj and Sitamarhi. Out of these, three districts, Kishengunj, Vaishali and Sheohar were due for renewal. Apart from Bihar, Royal Sundaram will also be implementing the scheme in 16 districts in Arunachal Pradesh soon.

RSBY is a unique scheme which empowers the card holder to get treatment from all RSBY network hospitals across India – public as well as private. The beneficiaries under the scheme will have to pay a nominal registration fee of Rs 30 to get them enrolled under the scheme. Up to five members of a BPL family can get enrolled and avail benefits in any of the network hospitals for hospitalisation – surgical and non-surgical expenses and listed day care treatment. All pre-existing diseases are covered. The scheme also covers transportation cost of Rs 100 per visit with an overall limit of Rs 1,000 per year.

Commenting on the renewal of the MoU, Ajay Bimbhet, MD, Royal Sundaram said, "We are committed to providing good and quality healthcare to the most unaffordable class of people. Renewal of the MoU is a testimony of our untiring contribution to the BPL families for whom accessing healthcare facilities is just a far fetched dream."

Bimbhet further added: "Royal Sundaram has been engaged in activities like workshops, health camps, distribution of leaflets, road shows at local markets and public gatherings and in major locations in the districts. It is heartening to receive active participation by the Government officials and even 'Mukhiya' of local Panchayats in spreading the information. We will continue to conduct these activities benefiting the concerned and beneficiaries."
